Incredible birthday supper! The service, ambiance and food were We had the bruschetta which was perfect, the tenderloin & scallops and the beef ribs (yes, there’s 2!). Best meals we’ve had in a long time and we live in Ottawa. Very impressed!

What a pleasant surprise! Only in Canning one night and D&B was recommended by our B&B host. A delight, from the opening very local dry Pay Day cider to the closing dark chocolate torte. The only thing better than the whole haddock and the steak and scallops was our server, Erin: friendly, attentive and clearly on top of the menu. A very enjoyable evening in a pleasant setting.

This was our second visit to Dickie-Baxter’s. We are visiting from Alberta and last year was our first time at the restaurant. Ben was our server both times. He is a fantastic human being and an excellent waiter. Makes you feel at home instantly and is an active listener. Claire (the owner) is simply lovely and she has created a culture of welcome, excellence and community. Well done, everyone! And now to the food... we had breakfast Benny’s. Mine was the brisket and mushroom. It’s what I had last year and I’ve been waiting to enjoy it for a whole year. It did not disappoint. Worth the wait! We also had Waldorf salad which was just right in every way- beautiful greens, crunchy apples, huge walnuts and a light lemony dressing.

We had an incredible dining experience at Dickie Baxter! From start to finish, everything was spot on. We kicked things off with the Korean nachos, and honestly, they were some of the best we’ve ever had—perfectly crispy, full of flavor, and packed with just the right kick. For mains, my girlfriend had the hunter chicken, which was rich, hearty, and beautifully balanced. I went for the Angus tenderloin, and it did not disappoint. Cooked exactly to order, it was incredibly tender and flavorful. The blue cheese mash was a standout—creamy, tangy, and the perfect complement to the steak. The seasonal veggies were fresh and well-prepared, adding a nice touch of color and crunch to the plate. A special shoutout to our server Ben, who was attentive, friendly, and really knew his stuff. He made sure we had everything we needed without being overbearing, and his recommendations were spot on. Highly recommend this spot—great food, great service, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back!

Our waitress, Erin, was so bubbly she added our first time there more pleasurable than we could have expected. The food and atmosphere was so superb tlwe halve to give this a 10. But Erin went the extra mile to make us feel comfortable and was fun to chat with. She even took a salmon dish on the menu, listen to what I would prefer and the chef created the most tasteful style salmon with roasted potatoes and asparagus above and beyond what I expected. Thank you to the entire staff for making this a memorable evening. from Deb & Dave, Boston, MA.

What a gem of a restaurant we found by accident... We came for lunch/ brunch. And the food was simply amazing!!! Hand-made dishes full of creativity and flavour. All in a gorgeous space full of plants, light, and local art. Great service! 5-stars all around.

This was our first time to this restaurant. We had a fabulous time. The food was excellent. I had the steak that was done to perfection and my wife had the scallops. Our server Erin was wonderful. She was very helpful with things to do in the area. Also she was very attentive. I bugged Erin about buying a Pay Day cider glass and she went out of her way to phone the boss and ask. I'm now the proud owner of a glass. Thanks for everything Erin. What a wonderful experience. Definitely will return and we highly recommend this restaurant.
